  Jonathan Hood

Jonathan Hood was born in Edinburgh in 1957. He graduated from the Duncan of Jordanstone, College of Art, in Dundee and later studied drawing and painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts de Paris. He has been a full time artist since 1986 and has exhibited regularly in galleries in Scotland and England. He has many international patrons and is now represented in private collections around the world.   Described as a neo colourist, his work embodies many of the characteristics of the Scottish Colourists. He paints with energetic and vibrant colours that somehow seem to belie the laid back and casual stance of some of his subject matter. One always feels there is much more going on than meets the eye. There appears to be messages hidden amongst the multilayer of shapes and colours and with a cubist touch our viewpoint is a little ambiguous. However there is such warmth to Jonathan’s work that we feel ourselves constantly drawn back into the view of his almost anonymous but familiar characters.
