Kim Roskell was born in Lancashire in 1960 and at the age of twelve won the “Young Artist Of The Year Award.” She studied art at Tuson College and Preston Polytechnic. As well paint she developed an interest in such media as glass and metal. Following this further she entered into the world of furniture design and gained an honours degree at Nottingham University in 1979.   Her career followed a designer’s path and she worked on many prestigious projects including the BBC production of Alice in Wonderland. Involved in model making, furniture design, and stained glass design and manufacturing she developed a highly diverse skill set, and gained a range of influences. These are evident in her paintings where she portrays the beauty of light and shade amongst the depth and texture of the amazing British landscape, with a style that exudes strength, radiance and movement.   Her bold and sometimes stark impressionistic style has been inspired by a combination of great artists such as Alfred Sisley, Edward Hopper and more recently Kurt Jackson. She was overwhelmed at an early age by the sculptures of Giacometti and in some ways she creates a similar potential for movement in her own work. One often feels on the peripheral of a scene or moment in time. Kim places the viewer in her shoes and we can almost hear the leaves rustle, the birds singing and the wind whistling. There is often a sense of waiting for something to happen.    Her career and success as a painter was sealed in 1999 when she was invited to become a member of the Society of Women Artists. Since then her popularity has grown and her work has sold tremendously in Britain. She has been represented by Galleries throughout the country and her work is now part of many private collections.
